Lab Vision
The Climate–Ecosystem–Energy (CLiME) Lab, led by Prof. Laibao Liu, aims to accelerate climate-resilient and sustainable development by advancing carbon neutrality. We work at the intersection of the climate change, land ecosystem and energy system. Our research combines ground observations, satellite measurements, earth system models, energy system models, and data science, spanning scales from local to global.

2025 Nov | Dr. Laibao Liu was awarded the RGC’s European Union - Hong Kong Research Cooperation Co-funding Mechanism by the RGC. Dr. Laibao Liu is the first awardee under this scheme in our Faculty of Social Sciences since its establishment in 2016!
2025 Sep | Dr. Laibao Liu’s leading paper entilted “Hysteresis and reversibility of agroecological droughts in response to carbon dioxide removal” was published in Nature Water.
2025 Aug | Dr. Laibao Liu was awarded the NSFC Young Scientist (Type B). Dr. Laibao Liu is the soley awardee under this scheme in the field of “Earth Science” in Hong Kong, 2025.
2025 June | Dr. Laibao Liu was awarded the RGC Early Caree Scheme.
2025 April | Congrats to Ms. Shujie Zhang! She was awarded the 2025/2026 exercise of The Hong Kong PhD Fellowship Scheme and the HKU Presidential PhD Scholarship.
2024 July | Dr. Laibao Liu was awarded the HKU-100” Scholar.
2024 July | Dr. Laibao Liu join HKU as an tenure-track Assistant Professor and start the Climate–Ecosystem–Energy lab.
